Scheduling “me time,” soaking, and stretching are all effective ways to relieve stress during the oh-so-busy holiday season.

According to Drs. Kay Judge and Maxine Barish-Wreden, medical directors of Sutter Downtown Integrative Medicine program in Sacramento, Calif., staying unplugged for a period of time can also help you remain balanced while entertaining family and friends.

And then there’s balancing your wallet. “Do you really need to buy all those presents?” ask Drs. Judge and Barish-Wreden. “What is the bare minimum you are happy with, and how much can you afford? Create a list and stick to it – avoid impulse shopping. Do not spend what you don’t have. Whereas money may not buy happiness, being in debt certainly increases stress levels and increases depression.”
