On February 14, activist and feminist Eve Ensler and her non-profit V-Day calls on “one billion women and those who love them” to rise up to end violence against women and girls.

Ensler first began raising funds and awareness about 15 years ago with her award-winning play The Vagina Monologues.

“When we started V-Day,” Ensler explains, “our idea was to go out of business. We weren’t planning to be here 15 years later — we were going to end violence. And we’re still here and violence is still happening, so we really just started thinking how are we going to escalate what we’re doing? How are we going to bring it to the next level?”

V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.
