A new study finds that what you eat can have an impact on sun safety… and how crispy you’ll get under the sun.

Researchers at Athens Medical School in England stuffed people full of 4 tablespoons of tomato paste every day for 14 days. When it was all said and done, the paste-eaters experienced increased sun safety and suffered fewer sunburns than the paste-free control group. Researchers point to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms in the tomato paste, and say it boosted the skin’s natural SPF by a third.

Of course, if you’re going out in the heat of the day, we do not recommend eating tomato paste as your only protection!
