In the computer science field, getting a computer to beat a mortal was an achievement because it meant designing a machine that understood how humans think. Now the goal is to get a computer to understand how a human whips up new ideas such as recipes.
“The goal in computational creativity is to come up with new things that have never been seen before,” says Lav Varshney, a computer scientist at IBM.Â
